Elements Practice Retreat

with Lharila Kalsang Nyima
August 16-24, 2008

Lharila Kalsang Nyima, Chamma Ling’s resident lama, will be leading our first small group practice retreat on the integration and balancing of the elements. Indigenous healing and spiritual traditions around the world speak of the five elements. In the Tibetan traditions these are known as space, air, fire, water, and earth, and are understood to be the underlying energies from which the physical world and our bodies, emotions and minds arise. During this retreat, Lharila will lead practices from Tenzin Rinpoche’s book, Healing with Form, Energy, and Light: The Five Elements in Tibetan Shamanism, Tantra, and Dzogchen.

These powerful elemental practices, steeped in the ancient Bon Buddhist tradition, help us to connect with the sacred aspects of the five elements of nature both in the nature that surrounds us and within ourselves. As these connections develop, healings at the deepest levels of consciousness can naturally and spontaneously arise.

This is a wonderful opportunity to practice these sacred meditations lead by a qualified lama in a setting uniquely supportive of direct experience of the elements. This retreat will be primarily focused on practice, organized in four or more practice sessions per day. There will be numerous group practice sessions guided by Lharila, held under our large hand-made Tibetan tent, as well as solitary meditation sessions where each person connects directly to the powerful elemental energies of this sacred mountain. There will be opportunities for private interviews with our resident lama to clarify methods or questions that may arise during meditation.

People attending the retreat are encouraged to camp at our retreat center, though if this is not feasible it is possible to stay off site. We will provide bottled water and access to bath facilities in our cabins. Retreatants will provide their own tents and other camping equipment. We encourage people to bring "solar showers" to avoid waiting for our facilities. Registration will be limited to no more than 20 people. Meals are provided as part of the retreat. Everyone will support the community of practitioners by taking turns helping prepare meals, which keeps costs and fees low, and cultivates service for others.

To learn more of Lharila Kalsang Nyima’s training and retreats, you can consult his biography .

No prerequisites are required to attend this retreat. However we do recommend that everyone have read Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche's book, Healing with Form, Energy and Light, which is available from Ligmincha Institute's online bookstore . One should also have a daily meditation practice, and be prepared to extend that to four meditations sessions per day during the retreat.

Each registration packet will include a practice guide and we recommend that retreatants engage in this meditation daily for four weeks prior to the retreat.
